Bus Trip to Slavery Exhibit on Feb 18th Did you know that slavery was widespread in New York, including the Nyack area, both before and after the Revolutionary War? There is an excellent exhibit on the subject at the New York Historical Society Museum in Manhattan. The Historical Society of the Nyacks has chartered a bus to visit the exhibit on Saturday, February 18, and invites anyone interested to join them for the trip. The tour is planned as part of Black History Month, and in coordination with the recent release of the book, Nyack in Black & White: Race Relations Over Three Centuries, published by the Society in cooperation with the Nyack Library. Several chapters in the book, which will be available for purchase on the bus, deal with slavery in the local area. Participants in the tour will meet the bus at the Nyack High School parking lot off Christian Herald Road at 8:30 a. m., and will return between 4 and 5 p.m (new time). After the guided tour of the Slavery Exhibit at the Museum, we will break for lunch. Brown bag lunches can be eaten, and we will provide a list of restaurants with varying price ranges. Reservations must be received by February 11 so that the bus can be confirmed. Remaining tickets, if any, will be sold after that date.To join the Historical Society of the Nyacks, click here.
